Discovery Channel Wings

disc.wings.thb.jpgNBI was contracted by Discovery Digital Networks to develop an immersive, interactive adventure that serves as a delivery platform for a new type of 3d video technology. Working closely with the staff at Discovery, NBI designed all materials, both full motion video and user interface to maintain the existing brand/identity of Discovery Wings.

One of the challenges of this project was to create a platform that could be used to showcase a variety of 3d videos. NBI designed and produced the interactive adventure to allow Discovery Wings to use a variety of subjects in the future without the need for new intros and interfaces.

Requiring expertise in video editing, animation, user interface design, graphics processing and optimization, multimedia programming, and hardware and software configuration NBI pulled together the various components to produce an application that met all of Discovery's requirements.

Digital Video Intro Animation
Posted: February 14th, 2004 21:49
This was the full-motion video that was played when the user first entered the kiosk. It was composited from over 50 hours and hundreds of different video reels, and included custom animation. It was created to immerse the viewer and create excitement for the following 3D video.

The system was designed so that after the viewer saw the intro animation, they could put on a pair of 3D goggles and view one of a number of 3D videos of acrobatic airplanes.
